Developer Productivity Engineering Interactive Workshop

Over the last decade, DevOps has emerged as an influential business philosophy and practice, helping businesses drive high quality software to market faster. DevOps focuses on the elimination of bottlenecks that occur when development and operational resources are too divorced from one another.

But what about friction in the development and test process? What about the delayed feedback cycles that come from slow builds and test flakiness? How can we reduce friction in areas that are outside of the traditional focus of DevOps?

Through hands-on interactive labs, Justin Reock, Field CTO at Gradle Enterprise, will demonstrate how the emerging practice of Developer Productivity Engineering (DPE) addresses these questions. The audience will take part in code and product-driven examples of new DPE practices in action with Java projects for both the Maven and Gradle JVM build tools.

Participants will experience and learn about:

Practical Implementation of DPE: Gain hands on experience with tooling that implements the pillars of Developer Productivity Engineering, especially for Java projects using Maven or Gradle build tools

Faster Build and Test Feedback Cycles: Work directly with acceleration technologies such as local and remote build caching, machine learning-driven predictive test selection and test set optimization, and cloud-scale local test distribution

Efficient Root Cause Analysis: Use Build Scans to capture forensic build and test data into an intuitive, navigable, and collaborative interface to swiftly pinpoint and resolve core build and test failures

Proactive Build and Test Failure Analytics: Learn ways of detecting and proactively rectifying avoidable failures and non-deterministic or flaky tests

Elevating DPE Within an Organization: Understand the strategies to elevate and solidify Developer Productivity Engineering as a pivotal discipline in your team or organization.

Attendees will leave equipped with actionable insights, techniques, and the confidence to apply Developer Productivity Engineering practices in their own environments, ensuring more efficient and productive development cycles.

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

These labs provide hands-on examples of how CloudBees CI enables shared services, platform engineering teams, and Jenkins administrators to deliver and enable highly scalable and easily managed continuous integration for all your software delivery teams.  You’ll learn how to create and share templates for Jenkins pipelines, configure automatic enforcement of Jenkins pipeline policies, delegate administration to users with CloudBees CI RBAC, and manage Jenkins configuration as code.

Agenda:

  • Managing Pipeline Template Catalogs
  • Pipeline Policies
  • Delegating administration
  • Configuration as Code
