As Arm's open source software group migrates more and more of its engineering infrastructure to cloud, we are presented with a number of fresh challenges, ranging from maintenance overhead, observability at scale and how to manage the security of our systems. As the complexity of the solutions Arm delivers increases, so does the need for robust and manageable infrastructure to meet the needs of the project, while ensuring compliance with companywide governance. An additional challenge is presented in the form of Arm's desire to use its own architecture where possible for development and service hosting. In this presentation, we will cover why we chose to use Kubernetes as a platform-agnostic solution for deploying our infrastructure across a number of on-premise and cloud environments. We will also discuss how we tackled the management, observability and security of a multi-arch compute estate, and describe how we aligned our on-premise and public cloud deployments using SUSE's Rancher, Harvester and NeuVector technologies.
